Capital Archive
"Capital Archive" presents a series of photographic works that contemplate the rapid construction of office buildings in late 1990s and early 2000s China. This collection focuses on semi-abandoned structures in Shanghai, once emblematic of China's economic boom during that era. Parts of these buildings are still actively in use, standing flimsily amidst modern shopping malls, as silent urban giants, quietly awaiting their inevitable fate of being forgotten. The discrepancy of those buildings are palpable, but they remain hidden in the growth of the Chinese economy, the impotent history they hold will soon turn into rubble. This project aims to document their plight and reflect on the intertwined destinies of architecture and capitalism, capturing a moment before these edifices fade into obscurity.
